Thurrock Engineering Supplies is a family-run distributor of workwear, PPE, tools and site consumables, founded in 1990 and based in West Thurrock, Essex. Thirty-six years on, TES supplies contractors, infrastructure projects and industrial organisations across the United Kingdom.
TES was founded in 1990 by Paul Keenan, its founding director, to supply engineering and construction contractors around Thurrock with the tools, fixings and fasteners they needed to keep working. The business grew out of that local trade and never moved away from it.
On Paul’s retirement the company passed to his sons, Luke and Ross Keenan, who run it today. Luke became Sales Director in 2008; Ross joined as an additional director in 2014, alongside his brother.
TES was restructured in 2014, and it is worth being precise about what that means. Companies House records an incorporation date of 10 October 2014 for company number 09259452. That is the date of the restructure, not the date the business started. Thurrock Engineering Supplies has traded continuously since 1990 — thirty-six years — under the same name and the same family.
Three pieces of the company’s own history sit behind the way TES supplies infrastructure work today.
TES supplied fixings, fasteners and tools to the QE2 Bridge construction project in 1992, two years after the company was founded. It was the first major publicly funded infrastructure project TES supplied, and it set the pattern for the work that followed.
A long-standing supplier to Tilbury Docks. Port and terminal work is unforgiving on PPE and hand tools, and it rewards a supplier close enough to respond the same day — which, from West Thurrock, TES is.
A long-standing supplier to Thames Board Mills. Heavy industrial sites of that kind are where the consumables, abrasives and maintenance tooling side of the business was built.
More recently TES has supplied into some of the largest infrastructure programmes in London and the South East. The dates are each scheme’s own construction timeline — they are not the period over which TES was supplying it.

Accreditation is what lets a supplier through the door on infrastructure work, so it is worth stating exactly what TES holds and who issued it. The three ISO certifications are issued by AUVA, a UKAS-accredited certification body — a distinction that RISQS, Constructionline and Tier 1 PQQs all draw.
Certificate 1214, issued by AUVA. First achieved on 8 March 2000 and held continuously ever since. Scope: “The Supply of Engineering Supplies to the Public and Private Sector and Related Markets”.
Certificate 2100, issued by AUVA, first achieved 30 July 2024. Same certified scope as ISO 9001. It underpins the workwear and PPE recycling programme.
Certificate 2101, issued by AUVA, first achieved 30 July 2024. Same certified scope again — relevant when TES people are working on your site rather than delivering to it.
Registered supplier on the Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme, supplier ID 10079, first registered in January 2024.
Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, fleet ID 001657. TES has been FORS-accredited since September 2014 and has held Silver since September 2025. It governs how the TES delivery fleet is run and is a standing requirement on much highways and urban construction work.
